ABOUT
commonmatters investigates a novel and conceptual form that emerges from an expanded thermodynamic concept itself. We challenge conventional architectural practices by researching how energetic flux and material thermal properties can be integrated seamlessly into building structures, their geometry, and occupant usage patterns to create more sustainable and vital living spaces. Through augmentation of dynamic tensions into an architectural response that are tailored to the local climate, commonmatters offers an alternative model for architectural design and a climatic responsive form of life.
commonmatters is a Boston-based firm led by Sungwoo Jang, AIA, LEED AP, CSL. Sung is currently an Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture at Syracuse University. He holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Previously, he taught environmental systems at the College of Arts, Media, and Design at Northeastern University and led design studios at the Boston Architectural College. Before that, Sung spent over a decade in architectural practice.
